Why it's on GiftsFeed

Titanium frame-lock folder with M390 steel and ceramic bearing pivot

Most gentlemen's folders compromise on the blade steel or skip the frame lock to save cost, then charge the same as a knife that skimps nowhere. This one pairs M390 with a titanium frame lock and ceramic bearings at both the pivot and the lockup, which means edge retention and smooth operation that last years instead of months. It matters if you actually carry a knife daily and hate resharpening or dealing with a sticky pivot after the first season. The dual-tone Cerakote and minimal two-screw design keep it looking deliberate rather than busy, so it works as well in an office as it does on a trail.

Good gift when

  • People who want a refined everyday folder without tactical styling
  • Knife enthusiasts who appreciate premium materials and tight tolerances
  • Anyone rotating multiple carry knives and looking for something lighter
  • Collectors drawn to limited finishes and numbered production runs

Skip it if Only ten units per color means you may not get your first choice, and M390 steel takes more effort to sharpen at home than softer steels if you prefer doing your own edge maintenance.

The maker

Big Idea Design took the profile of their fixed-blade Lookout and reimagined it as a folder, working with ABS Journeyman Smith Mak Kelsey to refine the proportions and lock geometry. The result is named after Point Park, the scenic overlook atop Lookout Mountain near their Tennessee workshop.

The two-screw construction—one for the pivot, one for the clip—eliminates the visual clutter of extra fasteners and keeps the handle profile uninterrupted. The dual-tone Cerakote treatment on each colorway contrasts with the raw titanium underneath, giving each knife a finish that wears gracefully as the coating breaks in over time.

This is the first production run of the Overlook with Cerakote, limited to fifty knives total across five finishes. Each color references a different palette: earthy bronze, muted green, sunset gradient, deep purple, and bright red. The knife carries Big Idea Design's lifetime warranty.

The details

This is a slim folding knife built around a titanium frame lock and a drop-point blade in M390 stainless steel. The scales are grade-five titanium, finished with dual-tone Cerakote in five limited colorways. A ceramic ball bearing pivot lets the blade swing open smoothly with dual thumbstuds, and the lockup uses a ceramic ball bearing for consistent engagement.

The two-screw design—one for the pivot, one for the pocket clip—keeps the profile clean. The deep-carry titanium clip is reversible for tip-up or tip-down carry on either side. At just under two ounces and a hair over three and a half inches closed, it sits light in a pocket and stays unobtrusive until you need it.

The blade is ground flat to a drop point, heat-treated to 62 HRC, and sharpened to a 38-degree inclusive angle. M390 holds an edge through extended use and resists corrosion in humid or wet conditions. The handle thickness is just over a third of an inch, so the knife disappears in dress pants or a jacket pocket without printing.

Each Cerakote finish is applied in a dual-tone pattern that contrasts with the titanium underneath. Habanero Red, Midnight Bronze, Charcoal Green, Crushed Orchid, and Tequila Sunrise are all limited to ten units per color. The knife ships with a lifetime warranty and is designed in collaboration with ABS Journeyman Smith Mak Kelsay.

Questions

Can the pocket clip be moved to either side of the handle?
Yes, the titanium deep-carry clip is reversible and can be mounted for tip-up or tip-down carry on either the left or right side of the handle. It uses a single screw for repositioning.
What makes M390 blade steel worth the extra cost?
M390 is a powder-metallurgy stainless steel with high chromium and vanadium content, which gives it excellent edge retention and corrosion resistance. At 62 HRC hardness, the blade will hold a sharp edge through extended cutting tasks and resist rust in humid or wet conditions better than most stainless alloys. The tradeoff is that it takes more effort and the right tools to sharpen at home.
How does the frame lock work on this knife?
The titanium frame lock uses a section of the handle that moves into the path of the blade tang when the knife is open, preventing it from closing. A ceramic ball bearing in the lockup provides smooth, consistent engagement. To close the knife, you press the lock bar out of the way with your thumb and fold the blade back into the handle.
Is this knife legal to carry in my state?
Knife laws vary widely by state, county, and city, and some jurisdictions restrict blade length, locking mechanisms, or carry methods. The Overlook has a 2.62-inch blade, a locking mechanism, and a pocket clip for concealed carry. You are responsible for checking your local laws before purchasing or carrying any folding knife.
How many of each color are available?
Each Cerakote colorway—Habanero Red, Midnight Bronze, Charcoal Green, Crushed Orchid, and Tequila Sunrise—is limited to ten units. Once a color sells out, it will not be restocked as part of this limited release.
