Why it's on GiftsFeed
Structured 100L Duffel with Tote Handles and Backpack Straps
Most large duffels either lie flat and require two hands to wrestle closed, or they force you to commit to one carry style. This one stays open and upright while you load it, then gives you three ways to move it depending on distance and context. The backpack straps tuck away completely when you don't need them, the tote handles deploy without removing the shoulder strap, and the stiffened walls mean you can set it down and come back to it without finding a collapsed pile. If you've ever struggled to repack a soft duffel in a hotel room or wished your gym bag had a backpack mode for the bike ride home, the convertible structure is worth the slightly higher weight.
Good gift when
- People who move between gym, work, and weekend trips without unpacking
- Travelers who need overhead bin capacity with backpack portability
- Anyone tired of choosing between a duffel's capacity and a tote's convenience
- Buyers who want one bag that handles multiple trip lengths
Skip it if At 100 liters, this is larger than most people need for a gym bag or single overnight—if you're not regularly packing for multi-day trips or carrying bulky gear, a 60L version of this concept would serve you better and take up less closet space.

The maker
NEMO Equipment builds outdoor gear in New Hampshire with a focus on solving real problems through thoughtful design rather than adding features for their own sake. The Double Haul line came from the company's own frustration with bags that forced a choice between capacity and comfortable carry, or between structure and packability. The result is a carry system that adapts to how you're actually moving rather than dictating a single method.
The details
This 100-liter bag solves the problem of choosing between a duffel, a tote, and a backpack by building all three carry modes into one reinforced design. The main compartment opens wide and holds its shape while you pack, supported by internal stiffeners that keep the walls upright. When you're ready to move, close the top and carry it as a traditional duffel, deploy the tucked-away tote handles for quick overhead bin lifts or car-to-door hauls, or clip on the self-contained backpack straps for longer walks.
Side-release buckles let you switch between duffel and tote configurations without wrestling with straps or hardware. The bag stays closed and secure in either mode. Zippered mesh pockets line the interior and exterior for small items that would otherwise sink to the bottom of a 100-liter cavity.
Constructed from 420-denier recycled nylon with water and stain resistance, the fabric is bluesign-approved and built for repeated abuse. The structured design means it won't collapse into a shapeless heap when you set it down, and the reinforced trusses distribute weight evenly across the frame. A matching carrying case is included and doubles as a packing cube when the bag is in use.

Questions
- Can the backpack straps be removed completely?
- The backpack straps are self-contained and tuck away into the bag when not in use, but they are not removable. They stay attached and out of the way when you're carrying it as a duffel or tote.
- How do you switch between duffel and tote mode?
- Side-release buckles let you reconfigure the carry handles. Release the buckles to extend the tote handles for overhead lifting, or keep them secured for traditional duffel-style shoulder carry.
- Is this bag waterproof?
- The recycled nylon fabric is water-resistant and will shed light rain and splashes, but it is not fully waterproof. The zippers and seams are not sealed, so prolonged exposure to heavy rain will eventually allow water inside.
- Will this fit as a carry-on?
- At 100 liters, this bag exceeds the size limits for most airline carry-on allowances. It's designed for checked baggage, car travel, or situations where you don't need to meet airline dimension restrictions.
- Does the bag stand up on its own when empty?
- Yes, the stiffened trusses and structured frame keep the bag upright even when it's not fully packed, which makes loading and organizing much easier than with soft-sided duffels.
