Megalodonut Handthrown Mug

This ceramic mug is wheel-thrown by Deneen Pottery in the United States, so every piece shows the slight variations that come from skilled human hands shaping clay. The stoneware body is finished with a navy base that receives a dipped application of grey and white glaze, creating a layered effect that differs subtly from mug to mug.

The handle is sized larger than standard to make it easier to hold when the mug is full. That same handle also works well if you prefer to wrap your hand around the outside of the mug rather than threading fingers through the loop. The 14 to 16 ounce capacity puts it in the middle ground between a typical coffee mug and a full pint—enough for a generous pour without feeling oversized.

Because the stoneware is fired to high temperature, it handles both the dishwasher and the microwave without issue. The glaze remains smooth and the finish stays intact through repeated use. The handthrown process means walls may be slightly thicker or thinner in places, but that same weight and texture give the mug a grounded feel in the hand.

The layered glaze creates a soft color transition rather than a uniform tone. Navy dominates, but grey and white break through in ways that shift depending on how the glaze pooled during firing. Each mug reflects the kiln's heat and the potter's touch, so no two are identical.
