Why it's on GiftsFeed
Compact fixed blade built for work, sized for everyday carry
Most everyday fixed blades are either too small to trust for real work or too large to carry without a tactical vest. This one commits to a three-inch blade—long enough to process kindling or break down a cardboard box, short enough that the whole knife fits in a back pocket with the clip. The tumbled finish matters because it removes the anxiety of that first scratch; you're not preserving anything, you're using a tool that already looks broken in.
Good gift when
- People who want a fixed blade they'll actually carry daily
- Anyone tired of folding knives with too many moving parts
- Campers who need a blade that works without babying
- Buyers looking for a ready-to-use knife instead of a display piece
Skip it if Tumbled finish shows every scratch—if you want a knife that stays pristine, this one arrives looking like it's already been to work and will only get more marked with use.

The maker
The Deano takes its name from the designer's uncle, a Kentucky outdoorsman who handed over a first knife and sparked a decades-long interest in blades and backcountry skills. This is the first fixed blade from a studio better known for machined pens and pocket tools, designed by Mak Kelsay and assembled in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
The details
This fixed blade splits the difference between a tool you'll actually use and one you can carry without thinking about it. The three-inch blade is long enough to handle camp tasks, food prep, and utility cutting, but the seven-and-a-half-inch overall length keeps it small enough to wear on a belt or tuck in a pocket with the included Ulti Clip.
The blade is Nitro-V steel, known for edge retention and corrosion resistance, finished in graphite black cerakote and tumbled to remove any factory-perfect shine. Expect surface marks out of the box—it's deliberate, not damage. The finish is meant to look used so the knife can be used without hesitation.
Two handle materials are available: black micarta or green micarta. Both offer grip in wet conditions and age without becoming slippery.
The kit includes a scout carry strap set for horizontal belt wear and an Ulti Clip Slim for direct attachment to fabric. Two ranger eye patches round out the package. Designed in Tennessee, assembled in the United States with imported steel.

Questions
- What is Nitro-V steel and how does it perform?
- Nitro-V is a stainless steel developed for knives that need edge retention and corrosion resistance. It holds a sharp edge through repeated use and stands up to moisture better than carbon steels, making it suitable for outdoor and everyday carry where rust is a concern.
- Can this knife be carried in a pocket?
- Yes. The included Ulti Clip Slim attaches directly to a pocket edge, waistband, or pack strap without a belt loop. The seven-and-a-half-inch overall length fits in most back pockets. The scout carry strap set provides an alternative for horizontal belt wear.
- Why does the blade arrive with marks and wear?
- The tumbled finish is applied intentionally to remove the factory shine and give the knife a worn appearance from the start. This is part of the design, not a defect. The goal is a tool you can use hard without worrying about preserving its looks.
- What is the difference between black and green micarta?
- Both handle materials are micarta, a layered composite known for durability and grip. The difference is only color. Both provide traction in wet conditions and develop a patina with use and oil from your hands over time.
