Why it's on GiftsFeed

Collectible trading cards celebrating makers and figures in everyday carry

Most collectibles in the EDC world are the gear itself—knives, pens, flashlights you actually use. This flips that: a low-stakes, portable way to celebrate the people behind the tools without spending hundreds on another titanium anything. The cards work because they borrow the childhood thrill of opening a pack while giving you something to do at shows beyond browsing tables. Getting a card signed by the person pictured turns a handshake into a momento, and the holographic cardstock makes them feel like an artifact rather than a printout.

Good gift when

  • People who collect everyday carry gear and follow the makers behind it
  • Anyone who attends knife shows or EDC events regularly
  • Fans of trading card nostalgia applied to a modern hobby

Skip it if You're looking for cards with gameplay mechanics or resale investment potential rather than collectible novelty

The maker

Big Idea Design started this series to honor the makers, curators, and organizers who keep the EDC community thriving. The second edition continues that mission with ten new cards, each illustrated by hand and printed in a limited run. The project is lighthearted by design—meant to spark conversation and trades rather than create another hierarchy.

The details

This set brings the ritual of collecting and trading cards into the world of everyday carry gear. Each card features a different maker, brand founder, or community figure who has shaped the EDC landscape—illustrated artwork on one side, stats and details on the reverse.

The ten cards in this second-edition set include Alicia Newton of Blade Show, Bernard Capulong of Everydaycarry.com, Jens Ansø of Ansø of Denmark, Ken Onion, Michael Jarvis of Auxiliary Manufacturing, Ramon Chaves of Chaves Knives, Squid Industries, Taylor Welden of Carryology, Tim Reeve of Chris Reeve Knives, and Will Hodges of Tactile Turn.

Each card measures 2.5 by 3.5 inches and is printed on ecofoil holographic cardstock that catches light the way childhood baseball cards did. You get both hard and soft protector sleeves so you can store them safely or carry a few to trade or get signed at knife shows, Shot Show, or other EDC gatherings.

Custom artwork for every card comes from Black Ink Branded. The tone is lighthearted—a celebration rather than a ranking—and the format invites you to collect, trade, and occasionally chase down a signature if you cross paths with someone featured in the deck. Limited production run, made in the United States.

Questions

Can I buy individual cards or only the full set?
This edition is sold as a complete ten-card set. Individual cards are not available separately.
Are these the same size as standard trading cards?
Yes, each card measures 2.5 by 3.5 inches, the standard size for trading cards, so they fit in any card binder or display case designed for that format.
What makes the cardstock holographic?
The cards are printed on ecofoil holographic premium cardstock, which has a reflective foil finish that shifts in the light, similar to vintage sports trading cards with holographic elements.
Will there be more editions with different people?
This is the second limited edition set. The maker has indicated they plan future editions and welcomes community suggestions for who to feature next, but no release schedule is confirmed.
