This hourglass-shaped brewer combines laboratory-grade glass with a manual pour-over method that gives you complete control over extraction. The non-porous borosilicate material won't absorb oils, odors, or residue from previous batches, so each brew tastes exactly as intended without ghost flavors creeping in.

The vessel holds 30 ounces when filled, enough for three generous mugs or six smaller cups. A polished wood collar sits where the glass narrows, insulating your hand from heat and providing a secure grip during the pour. A leather tie holds the collar in place and adds a finished look.

Because the glass is inert and heat-safe, you can brew directly into the vessel, then move it straight to the refrigerator if you want cold coffee later. The wide mouth and smooth interior make cleanup simple—no hidden crevices or parts to disassemble.

This brewer works with proprietary bonded paper filters, sold separately, that fit the conical shape and remove fine particles and bitter compounds as water passes through the grounds. The result is a bright, clean cup with clarity you don't get from metal mesh or cloth.

The design dates back to 1941 and remains unchanged because the geometry works: the funnel shape controls flow rate, and the glass doesn't interfere with temperature or flavor. It sits at 8.5 inches tall with a 5.125-inch diameter at the widest point, fitting comfortably on most counters and under standard cabinets.

You'll need to supply your own filters, a kettle for heating water, and medium-coarse ground coffee. The manual process takes a few minutes per batch and rewards attention—water temperature, pour speed, and grind size all influence the outcome.
