Why it's on GiftsFeed
Automatic watch with walnut from aged Budweiser barrels and skeleton dial
Most wood-accent watches hide cheap quartz movements under closed dials. This one opens the face to show a self-winding automatic mechanism and uses genuine American walnut rather than veneer or laminate. The skeleton dial means you see the balance wheel oscillate and the gears turn—proof the watch is mechanical, not decorative. That transparency matters if you care about owning an actual automatic rather than something that merely looks like one. The walnut is reclaimed barrel wood with visible grain, and the 150-piece limit keeps it from becoming another mass-market novelty. Worth it if you want a watch that shows its workings and uses real materials, not if you need something slim or subtle.
Good gift when
- Mechanical watch enthusiasts who prefer automatics to quartz
- Budweiser collectors after limited commemorative pieces
- Anyone drawn to wood-and-steel design contrasts
- People who want a watch with visible movement
Skip it if The 44mm case is large and the skeleton dial is bold, so this watch draws attention rather than blending in. The walnut requires occasional conditioning to prevent drying, and the automatic movement needs regular wear or a winder to stay running.

The maker
Original Grain started with the idea of turning reclaimed wood into functional objects that carry visible history. The company sources American walnut and other woods from barrels, furniture, and structures that have reached the end of their original life, then machines and finishes the material for use in watch bezels and bracelets. Each watch is assembled in Arizona, where the wood pieces are fitted to the steel components and the movements are installed. The partnership with Budweiser for this 150-piece commemorative run ties together barrel-aged brewing heritage and the brand's 150th anniversary, using walnut that once held whiskey to create a limited watch that marks both milestones.
The details
This automatic watch pairs reclaimed American walnut with a black stainless steel case and a skeleton dial that exposes the mechanics underneath. The Budweiser 150 crest is printed on the underside of the sapphire crystal, floating above the visible movement. A Japanese automatic movement winds itself through wrist motion, so no battery is ever required.
The 44mm case houses the self-winding mechanism, and the bracelet features alternating links of black stainless steel and American walnut. Each piece of walnut is selected for its dark, rich grain, which means visible variation between watches. The caseback is individually numbered as part of a 150-piece limited run.
Water resistance is rated to 5ATM, suitable for splashes and brief immersion but not for swimming. The sapphire crystal resists scratching better than mineral glass. Lug width is 22mm if you want to swap in a different strap. Engraving is available on the caseback for personalization.
Assembled in Arizona, the watch arrives in presentation packaging. The skeleton dial shows the gears and balance wheel at work, a feature that appeals to anyone curious about what makes a mechanical watch tick. The walnut adds warmth to the black steel, and the visible movement gives the dial depth that a solid face cannot match.

Questions
- Does the watch need a battery?
- No. The Japanese automatic movement winds itself from wrist motion, so no battery is required. If you don't wear it for several days, it will stop and need to be reset, or you can use a watch winder to keep it running.
- Can I swim with this watch?
- The 5ATM water resistance rating means it can handle splashes, rain, and brief immersion, but it is not intended for swimming or diving. It's suitable for everyday wear but not for extended water exposure.
- How do I care for the walnut?
- The walnut may benefit from occasional conditioning with a wood-safe oil or wax to prevent drying, especially in dry climates. Avoid prolonged exposure to water and direct sunlight, which can damage the wood over time.
- Can I change the bracelet?
- Yes. The lug width is 22mm, so you can swap in a standard 22mm strap or bracelet if you want a different look or material.
- What does skeleton dial mean?
- A skeleton dial has cutouts or transparent sections that let you see the watch movement beneath. In this watch, the dial is open so you can watch the gears, balance wheel, and other mechanical parts as they operate.
