Marine Layer

Marine Layer started with one founder's search to replace a favorite vintage T-shirt that had been thrown away. That hunt led to a full clothing line built around custom fabrics engineered for softness. The brand still operates from San Francisco, near the Bay, where it opened its first store on Chestnut Street.

The company develops its own materials in-house rather than sourcing standard textiles, creating hundreds of proprietary fabrics over the years. They earned B Corp certification in 2022 and run a Re-Spun program that recycles used garments into new pieces. Their manufacturing partners hold third-party certifications for labor and environmental standards.
