Diaspora Co. sources single-origin spices directly from farms in India, working with growers who cultivate turmeric, black pepper, cinnamon, and other varieties using traditional methods. The company was founded in 2017 by Sana Javeri Kadri, who grew up in Mumbai before moving to California. They buy from a network of small farms across India and pay what they describe as multiples above commodity rates.

Each spice comes from a specific farm or cooperative, with details about the grower and region included on the packaging. The turmeric comes from Pragati Turmeric in Sangli, Maharashtra. Their peppercorns are grown in farms in Kerala and Karnataka. They work with third-generation farmers like Prabhu Kasaraneni for turmeric and the Haritas Organic Farm for green cardamom. The company operates out of Oakland, California, where they handle warehousing and fulfillment after importing the spices from India.
