Cotopaxi

Davis Smith founded Cotopaxi after growing up throughout Latin America, where he witnessed widespread poverty and unequal access to opportunity. The company takes its name from one of the world's highest active volcanoes in Ecuador, a mountain that shaped Smith's childhood and inspired him to start an outdoor gear business.

The brand directs one percent of annual revenue to the Cotopaxi Foundation, a separate nonprofit that funds organizations working in health, education, and livelihoods in communities facing extreme poverty, primarily in Latin America. Over ninety-six percent of their products use recycled materials, leftover deadstock fabrics, or other sustainably sourced content. They hold B Corporation certification and belong to 1% for the Planet. Since 2014, grants from the foundation have supported an estimated 4.25 million people across ten countries.
