The company began in 1950 when Mr. and Mrs. Compartes started making European-style chocolate confections in their Brentwood home. Decades later, the Grahm family acquired the business. Jonathan Grahm took over at fifteen, reworking the original recipes by keeping the handmade approach and premium ingredients while updating the flavor profiles.

Today a small team of chocolatiers handcrafts everything in Los Angeles. They press fresh berries from California farmers' markets into dark chocolate, embed donuts into coffee-infused bars, and top ganache with edible gold. Bon Appétit gave their chocolates a perfect score, the Smithsonian Museum displayed their bar packaging, and Oprah has selected them multiple times as a favorite gift.
