Bokksu
Curated Japanese snacks and groceries sourced from small makers across Japan
Danny Taing started Bokksu in 2016 after returning from Japan with a suitcase full of regional snacks that couldn't be found in the United States. Many were made by small family operations that didn't export, so he began sourcing and curating them himself—first packing subscription boxes in his living room, then expanding into a broader business.
The company now runs three channels: a monthly subscription box of Japanese snacks and tea, a shop called Boutique that carries curated Japanese food and lifestyle items, and Market, launched in 2021, which stocks everyday Asian grocery staples. Taing reports having tasted over a thousand snacks in the process of building out the selection.
